Thomas Kegler Plein Air Workshop

 Each year, we have something special and beyond paintouts and often there are more. One of our favorites is inviting an artist to speak and demonstrate to our group. This year, Thomas Kegler graciously agreed to demo Plein Air at a creek near East Aurora, socially distanced, of course.

Despite being spread out, the attendees were able to share questions and see his demo. Being outside and spread out, everyone felt safe and comfortable wearing masks in close proximity.

Buckhorn Park dates bring out the painters every year

We did our best to maintain Social Distancing at the fishing dock at Buckhorn State Park. We always get a good turnout here. Great views in all directions, right near the parking lot!

Remembering Beverly

Beverly McIntyre could be counted on to bring a huge smile and a few laughs to every paintout she attended. Niagara Falls was one of her favorite places, she would work right through lunch on handmade papers she created with her friends. 

We do miss you, dear friend.

The 30th of June at Stella Niagara

The Stella Niagara education complex used to include this huge expanse of land that reaches down to the Niagara River. It has quite a history as it is the only place where a ship could access the land, everywhere else from Niagara Falls to Youngstown is a cliff. It is now part of the WNY land conservancy, forever natural and open to the public.

Clover with 5 leaves along the Niagara

Dexter found a FIVE leaf clover at Gratwick Park, meaning it was a lucky day for all the painters. We had a big turnout, painters were coming and going at different times, it was so good to see each other after a long time indoors.

It’s outdoor painting season!

Wow, that was a long quarantine and painting outdoors is healthy and safe. We wear masks as needed and keep our distance. Here are Jean and Diane near the canoe launch at the end of a stunning Buckhorn afternoon. Kath was there too, working by the dock.

Busy day at Casey’s Cabana

Sunshine and a light breeze and friends meeting to paint in Spring makes a day perfect. We kept our social distance but still managed to chat and catch up after months of quarantine. There was a steady clientele arriving to pick up orders but whenever a vehicle blocked our view, we found another spot to work on. What a treat to see kids and adults enjoying another beautiful WNY day outdoors.

Covid Solutions

It isn’t easy to watch the sun create deep shadows as spring emerges and we are all indoors behind glass.

Hopefully we are all drawing, sketching and keeping our art muscles ready for regular painting events. In the meantime, call and chat with your painting buddies. You could considering meeting one or two artists somewhere 'safe' from crowds and maintaining distance (as we always do in most locations). Life goes on and those spring flowers are calling. Stay safe, stay healthy and wear a mask. 

2020 schedule

Getting ready for Spring painting.

Sharon Fundalinski, Diane Goupil, Donna Hale, Paulette Jurek, Carol Mathewson, Jean MacDonald, Kath Schifano, Joan Shaw, Joan Turrell, Carol Vacanti, Peggy Walker, Anne Zohur all convened at Paulette's dining room table to plan for a new year of painting. So far there are 30 new dates and sites scheduled, with more to come as the weather improves.

Thank you to Paulette for hosting the group and providing wonderful cookies and finger foods which everyone enjoyed as well as her ideas of new places to go so she could finish some of the paintings she had previously started in plein air!
