WorldWide Paintout

Niagara Frontier Plein Air Painters went to Niagara Falls State Park in New York State on Friday September 9 to celebrate the 9th annual Worldwide paintout. It started as a lovely gray and overcast day, light shadows and perfect temperature and we all painted for an hour or two when the clouds simply disappeared and the sky was brilliant. There were more painters than in these pictures in the park, hidden by trees and atop rocks away from the massive waterfalls.

Beverly McIntyre also painted above Luna Island

Joan Shaw chose the water about to become the Bridal Veil Falls

Sharon Fundalinski watercolored American Falls

Joan Turrell sat right in the center of Terrapin Point
Plein air paintings here were photographed at lunch and several were unfinished at that time. Painters that had completed their morning work started new paintings.

On Saturday September 10, the NY painters got out their citizenship papers and crossed the bridge to paint on the Ontario side of Niagara Falls, where the views were of waterfalls from a distance rather than close up and next to the water.

Youngstown Invitation 2.0 7/11/11

The second Youngstown marina paintout brought out more artists, they spread out on the docks to capture sky & waves, sailboats in the water and on land and the Youngstown Yacht club area buildings.

Youngstown Invitation 6/27/11

Mondays are perfect for painting, especially when friends are painting nearby, sailboats are clinking their halyards, new young sailors are testing their water skills and the weather is fine. The first of two paintouts hosted by Carol Mathewson at her Youngstown studio and home was a good enough reason to come back the following week to paint again.

O'Connor's Family Greenhouses, July 8, 2011

Jean Jain settles in a doorway
Possibly the clearest, brightest, most perfect day of 2011 was Friday, July 8. The painters met at O'Connor's family greenhouses on Lake Road between Wilson & Lewiston. Each one of us walked around, looking for a perfect composition, confused by all the lovely choices until we settled into a variety of corners at this colorful nursery. Every one of us went home with garden items and a new favorite destination for filling gardens next year. Another highlight  was having lunch next to Lake Ontario at Laurene's, all of us plan to return to this lovely location.

Linda Piper used markers and color

Joan Turell stayed the longest with her pastels

Joan Shaw found a lazy winding path to paint in oil

Paulette Jurek painted a cart and a painter with oil.
Laurene Buckley used watercolor and pencil

Kath Schifano sat in shade with pastels

A perfect painting day should always include lunch on Lake Ontario.
