Ylli Hurani demonstration

Joan Shaw's barn studio was the perfect location to watch Ylli Haruni demonstrate his unique painting technique. His comments as he painted were more than interesting...they made us think, compare, consider and take notes.

Ylli would occasionally stop, turn to the audience and discuss some of his philosophy, like what makes a style for an artist or why we should add or take away information from the reference. he is truly an excellent painter, a great demonstrator and full of helpful information.

Cherry Blossom Festival Saturday

 Cherry Blossom time at the Buffalo History Museum was perfectly timed to our chosen date. Pinters spread out around the campus to capture the building, lake and landscape as well as the blossoms.

While music played, performers entertained, and flowers continued to open before our eyes, the sun shone and people smiled. it was that kind of day.

Billy Wilson Park Spring event

Amherst has a wonderful walkway built through the woods in this park. Walkers can enjoy the creek, a pond, wetlands and nature up close without leaving a footprint. Our painters like the dry clean walkway with some wider areas to gather and an occasional bench, too.

This is the perfect spot to welcome Spring with honking geese, nest building, sunning turtles and the sounds of leaves unfurling in the sun. Our painters have annually started the season here and always have a good time with Mother Nature. A newly built playground attracts many preschool children and they are speechless when parents bring their attention to the paintings in progress.

Buffalo History Museum Cherry Blossom Festival

Covered wastebasket for Plein air.

Do you have a coffee cup in the car? Finish it up and bring it to your paint spot. Give it a second life as a covered wastebasket. The cups are sturdy and the tops stay on so paint rags can be securely contained. The paper towels and apple cores will stay safely in the covered cup, even if it rolls around in the car.

Spring Equinox at Buckhorn State Park

Three hardy painters made it to our chilly inaugural paintout for 2018. Donna Hale (not in photos), Debra Meier and Kath Schifano. This was a 4:00 event, hoping for warm sunshine and warm light and afternoon shadows coming through the trees. It was sunny, which helped, but it was COLD. When the breeze picked up it seemed even colder but the three managed to create anyway. Layers of clothing helped, but didn't keep the paint warm.

Diane Goupil's paintings featured at Grand Island library!

  

The Grand Island Memorial Library invested in display walls last year. Each month features a new artist and Diane Goupil was selected as artist of the month. Her work shows the variety of skills she has and the paintings attracted a lot of attention. These photos don't do them justice.

Perfect day at Niagara Reservation

Three Sisters Islands at Niagara Falls remains one of NFPAP artists' favorite locations. Three bridges, slow medium and raging rapids, native species of animals and flora, easy parking all combine to make it a 'repeat' location. This day had no breeze nor mist, the sun was a bit hot but all the Painters found some shade. Who could ask for more from September?

On the third island we had watercolor and acrylics.

Artists brave bad weather at Stegelmeier Park

Rachelle, Peggy, Jennifer and Sharon experienced a bit of summer cold, rain and wind, too. Not much was accomplished in this park. A beautiful day quickly turned into a storm and these brave ladies went home earlier than planned.
