Youngstown in the rain

We were happy to be returning to paint in Youngstown. And then it rained, in fact it poured and was 1" deep under the tent which also started dripping underneath. No good for pastel painters, but I was Lucky, using oils. The red roof shed was a perfect collection of shapes, so I started my painting...not planning to have my view blocked by the blue sailboat 'lifter' which wheeled in front of my view. 

In Fall all the large and small sailboats are removed from the Niagara River and packed together, similar to cars at a busy mall on a Saturday holiday weekend. The huge masts create an aluminum forest, with ropes continually clinking on metal.

Under the tent, getting misted and standing in serious puddles. When the tent started leaking everywhere we decided to call it quits. 

New artist on our horizon!

 

While we painted at the Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival at the Buffalo History Museum an artist sketched us working. Who Knew? Koala came over to show me her drawing so I took this quick photo of her mini sketchbook. Perhaps she will join us or the Urban Sketchers, what beautiful pen work!

We had a big turnout of painters for Cherry Blossom weekend, it was glorious start to our plein air paintouts season.

2022 paint schedule and 2022 membership form

This is an early schedule and there are often changes to the time, date or location. Please check with the host.

If you are interested in joining NFPAP you can show up at a paint sight to meet us and ask questions. A simple signed agreement and $10 annual fee is required for membership.

Some of our spring events are chilly, but we show up dressed for the weather. It is particularly cold near the Niagara River, but who can resist the beauty?

Quick Paint, Pot Luck, Good Friends Gather

 Completely out of order, enjoy these photos of our get together that was not just about painting but also camaraderie. 2021 was a good year to be painters. Diane and Jean found the perfect park shelter for picnic and painting at Beaver Island State Park, NY, overlooking the river and Canada. 

Our pot luck lunch was preceded by a "Quick Draw" which was a challenge to complete a painting in 75 minutes. The finished collection was amazing, everyone pulled off a great speedy effort. Silly prizes were awarded for most Geometric, Transparent and Colorful paintings. Tough judging and lots of good comments!
